CASHEL DOGS FOR ADOPTION:
At Cashel Farm we have a different philosophy from many greyhound adoption groups when it comes to the lifestyle of a retired racer. Many adoption groups feel that once a greyhound enters a pet home he must be afforded a complete life of leisure comparable to what a lap dog might enjoy and they are often very unmoving in this attitude. We have been around greyhounds our entire lives however and feel we know greyhound temperment pretty well. Greyhounds LOVE to run. They love to lounge around also. Next time you visit a zoo observe the big cats. Tigers, lions and leopards are often pacing and moving around their enclosures. These animals spend a lot of their waking hours moving in search of prey. Their home ranges are very large and they have the endurance to patrol it regularly. Now observe the cheetah. The cheetah spends practically the entire day lounging about in the shade, cleaning her cubs and lolling about on her back. This is exactly the behavior of the greyhound. Both animals conserve energy in the resting state so that it is all available to them when they need it for that explosive sprint. A happy greyhound is given the oportunity every so often to feed her desire for the chase. Our city and suburban lifestyles as well as society's disapproval of blood sport makes chasing real prey impractical so we have devised artificial prey. The sports of lure coursing ASFA(American Sighthound Field Assoc.), drag racing LGRA (Large Gazehound Racing Assoc.) and amature track racing NOTRA (National Oval Track Racing Assoc.) are becoming very popular. At Cashel we encourage participation in these sports if the owner has an interest. Since all our adoption dogs are either raised by us or by close friends in the greyhound business we know the dogs complete history and can safely determine if a dog is sound enough to complete in these sports.
All our available Cashel racers have been adopted however we are picking up two for adoption from Rogue Brothers in Kansas on June 27th. Dogs from Rogue are raised to perfection with all scheduled vet care and loving gentle handling. When we get them home and work with them a little to become familiar with their personalities we will get their pictures and stories up and they will be available for adoption.
ADOPTED - THANK YOU SARA!
Both Sean and Kevin have been adopted by the same owner in Florida. We are very pleased that they are going to stay together as they have been best buds their entire life. They will have a large acreage and a four year old toddler to play with so they should be gloriously happy. Thank you Sara - we look forward to a long happy future for our boys.
Cf Dark Corsair (Sean)
Sean is a gorgeous shiny black beauty with beautiful amber eyes that almost dance with delight when around his people. He adores my toddler daughter and so should be very good with children. He was born September 12, 2005 to Rooftop Vicky and B Mac's Pike. His racing career was short but that benefits his future owners as they get to have him all the longer. Sean has a lovely friendly personality and that with his tall handsome figure is sure to get him attention at the local dog park. Unlike most retired racers Sean grew up in a household family setting and will adapt well to pet life. He dislocated two hind weight bearing toes on his first time out at the coursing field and is all healed up now but will never be sound enough to course again. He will however be fine for normal dog activities like jogging, dog park, obedience, agility etc. Great care would need to be taken with Sean with small dogs and he may never be cat safe.
Adoption Fee: $300.00
CF Jolly Roger (Kevin) ADOPTED - THANK YOU SARA!
Kevin is a big hansom light brindle with stiking face markings. He is a littermate to Sean. Kevin has a quiet way about him and will be good for the owner who wants a more laid back dog. He will do well with older children as Kevin will need a quite household. He is also sound and will make a good lure coursing prospect. Kevin has a very high prey drive so will never be safe around cats and care should be taken with small dogs.
Adoption Fee: $300.00
Tony Rockyhorror (Tony) ADOPTED - THANK YOU AMANDA!

Tony is going to be with Amanda in the Denver area. Amanda is very interested in lure coursing and amature racing so Tony will be having a great time in his new position as Amanda's top dog.
Tony is as sweet and gentle as they come. He was born May 20, 2003 so he is a perfect age making him a well mannered gentlemen with a playful side. Tony is completely sound and is already pointed as an ASFA lure courser - well on his way to a field championship. You can still have years of coursing fun with this handsome devil. Tony has a very nice disposition and will do well with older children. Tony could be cat trainable with an experienced owner and could also adapt well to living with a smaller dog.
Adoption Fee: $200.00
