On our farm we raise racing and coursing greyhounds of healthy sound coursing and racing lines with strong enphasis on imported Irish blood. Although we have had some success crossing the strong race lines with show bloodlines and as a result produced several AKC show champions and some very nice lure and open coursers, we have decided to move away from the half and halfs (show + racing breedings) to concentrate on our heavily Irish pedigrees. Although the AKC lines produce dogs that are indeed lovely to behold, the true performance lines produce dogs with exceptional intellegence and temperment as well as producing dogs that are free of crippling congenital defects. The Irish greyhounds have exceptional hardiness, as well as sweetness and 'heart'. Our one little female 'Cashel's Evening' competed in the last Waterloo Cup in England as the first American born dog ever to compete. Evie finished in 7th place overall beating several favorites to do so. Here at Cashel we work hard to bring up healthy strong puppies. We keep a small herd of goats who's only job is to produce milk for our growing pups. The terrain our pups grow up on is rugged and makes for smart tough coursing dogs. Cashel dogs are consistantly in the ribbons at ASFA trials in the tough Southwest circuit.
We also spend lots of time walking on trails - getting the babies used to new and strange situations. Cashel dogs have never had any problems traversing ditches or jumping over obsticles while lure or open coursing. Since they grow up learning to go with a person off lead in open ground they are not prone to running off and will always recall at the end of an event.
When our dogs come home from the track if they are sound enough, they start a new career as lure or open coursers. All Cashel dogs intended for the lure course leave at least pre certified to run in ASFA trials and preferably already pointed. You can be assured with a Cashel courser to have a long fun run on the coursing field for years to come. Training lure coursers is expensive and not many people have the facilities we have to work them so we do ask a little more of an adoption fee to cover these expenses. For that though you can be confident when you go to your first ASFA or AKC trial that your Cashel dog will not stop at the first turn and trot back to you or blow off the lure completely and run willy nilly around the field refusing to be caught. Our dogs are also raised in the home and come with sweetness and manners. We can also tell you if your dog is safe with cats, most are not but are usually fine with small dogs.
Along with the racers, we often have puppies and show and coursing prospects for sale. At Cashel we never breed a dog or bitch who refuses to chase a lure or has any temperment flaws such as aggression or shyness, as they are inherited. We guarantee our dogs FOR LIFE against congential hip displasia or any other congenital crippling disease, heart defects or untreatable blindness. Because of this you can be assured that although we are proud of the brains and athletic abilities of our dogs they also make fabulous long lived house pets and are perfectly happy if their job is only to share your couch as a loving companion.
Puppies and Dogs Available from Cashel Farm: Cashel Farm regularly has puppies and dogs available. We also offer adoptions of dogs coming home from the racetrack. Our track dogs are very well socialized and their reasonable adoption fee helps to cover the cost of transporting them home, vet care they may need to be ready for adoption, current vaccinations and health certificate. We require that all prospective puppy buyers and adopters fill out a puppy questionaire. This does not imply in any way that we don't feel you will be a good home for one of our dogs but we want to make sure that everyone concerned has all the facts they need to make an imformed decision. The time to find out a greyhound is not really the dog you want is not after you have spent hundreds of dollars getting him shipped to your home. It is also important to know the requirements of keeping and caring for a large active dog. All dogs and puppies purchased or adopted come with Contract protecting buyer, seller and dog, Health Guarantee, if shipping a health Exam and Colorado State Health Certificate issued by a licensed Veterinarian. If you choose we will also have a Home Again microchip placed in your dog for you at your cost and transferred into your name. We have a strict vaccination and worming schedule on our dogs and will provide you with your dogs records.
